Rui Vitória launched the match of the 8th Finals of the Portuguese Cup against Rio Ave in the press conference held at Estádio da Luz. He expects a well-played match and a match that will be difficult for both clubs.

“We will face a team with quality and we know one of the two teams will be eliminated. We know this match is fundamental, with different characteristics. To counter that we will have to impose our playing style and look at ourselves. It will be a well-played match, against a team with a good ball circulation. It will be an interesting match to follow. It will be complicated for us and for Rio Ave”, said the coach.

The Benfica coach has refuted any possibility of elimination in the Champions League helping or harming the remaining competitions.

“Last year, we made it past the group stage and we reach the Portuguese Cup final. The demand does not go up or down because we are not in the Champions League. We will have the same demand and same will to win, respecting the opponent. Rio Ave will want to win too”, he said.

The Portuguese Cup matches have special features and they can influence the way the opponent approaches the game. In contrast, Benfica only thinks about winning regardless of the competition.

When we work at a club like Benfica, the focus is the victory, whether for the three points or to go through to the next round. The matches have an impact on the players from the other teams, because there is extra-time and penalty shoot-out. There are variables that are not considered in the championship. In the Portuguese Cup, the focus must be on winning and in the championship, against Benfica, teams don't always think about winning. In our perspective, we always think about the same: winning”, he stressed.

The Rio Ave-Benfica is scheduled for 9:00 pm on Wednesday, at Rio Ave's stadium.
