The first official match in the 2018/19 season, a Champions League night at the Estádio da Luz and nearly 60 thousand spectator in the stands: it was in this dream scenario that Gedson made his official debut for Benfica.
Fitted in the center of the midfield of the team that started the match against Fenerbahçe, in the first leg of the Champions League 3rd qualifying round, Gedson, with just 19 years, made a great performance. The midfielder nurtured at Caixa Futebol Campus joined Nélson Semedo, Gonçalo Guedes, Renato Sanches, Lindelof, José Gomes, Diogo Gonçalves, João Carvalho and Rúben Dias in the batch of players that evolved at the Eagles B team and that, in different moments since the summer of 2015, were pulled into the international limelight by Rui Vitória.
The youngster Made in Seixal was effective in 46 of 51 passes attempted, which translate into an accuracy of 90%, according to the statistical data of the platform Wyscout.
Gedson’s range and vision are stressed by the forward passes accuracy, with 7 accurate passes in 8 attempts (88% efficacy), and in the back passes, 12 accurate passes in 13 attempts (92%). The weight of the accuracy increases when we center the analysis on the passes to the final third (5 in 5) and to the box (4 in 5).
In the development of offensive plays, the U-20 Portuguese international was 100 percent accurate in the cross attempt (3 in 3).
In Gedson’s performance, under the statistical prism, the recoveries also stand out: he made five, three of which in the opposition half. All this in a night of great joy, as the athlete himself confessed.
