Gedson's first training session for Portugal senior national team

At the age of 19, and after eight matches in Benfica's starting lineup, the centre-midfielder was called up by Fernando Santos for the matches against Croatia and Italy.

The midfielder from Benfica Gedson was one of the novelties in this Tuesday training session, at the Cidade do Futebol, in Oeiras. He joins Pizzi, who returns to the National Squad, and Rúben Dias, who was in the Russia World Cup and continues to earn the trust of Fernando Santos.

In the first 15 minutes opened to the Press, it was possible to see the presence of the youngster participating in the pass and reception exercises. The benfiquistas Rúben Dias and Pizzi also entered the pitch.

A few minutes before the start of the training session, André Silva, the forward from Sevilla, spoke in the press conference about the four debuts in the call-up.

“All player would love to be here. These are another four to help and on whom we can rely. All are important”, he admitted.

A bet from Rui Vitória in this start of the season, Gedson, who recently extended his contract until 2023, played as a starter in the eight official matches – Liga NOS and Champions League – from Benfica and scored one goal (against Fenerbahçe, in Istanbul). His debut took place at Estádio da Luz, on August 7, against the Turkish team in a match from the 3rd qualifying round of the Champions League.
