He began his career at Corroios, but he soon joined the Benfica Soccer Schools s, before was old enough to compete. Jota began in 2007 in the U-11 category; this is 12th season representing the reds.
Nurtured at Caixa Futebol Campus, João Filipe, known in the world of football as Jota, went through all the youth ranks of Benfica, winning national titles with the U-15, U-17 and U-19 squads and made his debut for Benfica’s B team in January 2017, against Varzim, two months before turning 17.
Quick thinking and executing and technically advanced, Jota has always stood out in Benfica's teams, being called up to the National team in the U-15 level. Since then, he has covered all the categories and he is currently a regular presence in U-21s. He was European Champion for Portugal in the U-17 and U-19 tournaments, where he was the top scorer with five goals.
