A very intelligent midfielder. Good vision and ability in the short and long pass are strong points in which he stands out. Weigl is a senior international with Germany and can play several positions on the football pitch.
Weigl began playing football at SV Ostermünchen and at TSV 1860 Rosenheim, and in 2010, he joined TSV
1860 Munich, the emblem that put him in the spotlight and for which he was the first team captain at the
age of 18, the youngest ever in the club.
In 2015, Weigl’s good displays caught the attention of Borussia Dortmund, that ended up signed him. He
quickly became an important part of the team and moved to Estádio da Luz after 171 games with the German
Ottmar Hitzfeld and Toni Kroos publicly praised Weigl's quality and talent, the German international
midfielder who was presented as a Benfica new signing on January 2, 2020.
