Sl Benfica’s choral society – “Orfeão”

Cultural Activity

Founded in 1957 within the club’s cultural activities, its goal is to promote the choral music and the taste for polyphonic music among the members and general public, in a friendship and conviviality environment.

Initially composed by 132 people, Sport Lisboa e Benfica’s Choral Society “Orfeão” has been developing a non-stopping activity, with several performances on the curriculum, from the north to the south of the country: Late evenings for workers, amateur chorus festivals, masses accompaniment and other shows. It is noticed, namely, its participation in all amateur chorus festivals around Lisbon, organized by the ACAL and in the XI Festival de Coros do Algarve.

Holding a wide and careful repertoire which includes Portuguese popular music themes, religious and profane polyphony, palatine music and black spiritual music, the Slb Benfica’s Orfeão has produced several recordings.

Directed by the “Maestro” José Eugénio Vieira, counts, approximately, with 50 people (men and women), of different ages, professions and academic degrees, people with a spirit of enthusiasm, cordiality and lots of harmony who make Benfica even more glorious.

The rehearsals take place at the stadium, gate 25, every Tuesdays and Thursdays, between 9pm and 10.30pm.
