Benfica's volleyball team face the Russia team of Belogorie Belgorod this Wednesday, in a game from the 1st leg of the Challenge Cup quarter-finals. At the Sports Palace Kosmos, a 3-0 win for the home team in an intense clash.
The first set was a very close affair, but the home team ended running away with the first set at 25-22.
The second set was very similar to the first set. After a tie at 14, a strong reaction from the home team that claimed a 20-15 lead. Benfica tried to close the gap, but the Russian squad clinched a new triumph, this time at 25-20.
The third set was also intense. A tie at 10, with Benfica edging ahead at 11-12. The two teams exchanged the lead a couple of times, but Belogorie Belgorod ended up sealing a 29-27 win and secured a 3-0 victory.
Benfica's starting lineup: Tiago Violas, Theo Lopes, Marc Honoré, Peter Wohlfahrtstätter, Rapha, André Lopes and Ivo Casas.
The 2nd leg of the quarter-finals will take place in Lisbon. The two teams fight for a place in the semi-finals of the Challenge Cup on February 13, Wednesday, at the Pavilion n.º 2 of Luz. The game is scheduled for 8:30 pm. To go through to the next round, Benfica can only lose one set , to achieve at least a 3-1 win, in order to force the golden set and win it!
