U-20s get off to winning start at the World Cup with the help of four eagles


Florentino, Gedson and Jota were starters against South Korea; Nuno Santos came on during the match.

The victories of 1989 and 1991 boosted Portugal U-20 in the opening match of the World Cup that takes place in Poland. In round 1 of Group F, against South Korea, the Portuguese national team won by 1-0.

Portugal started the match attaching and at 7’ opened the scoring. Trincão, assisted by the benfiquista Jota, scored the 1-0 at the Bielsko-Biala Stadium.

Portugal started the match with João Virgínia; Diogo Dalot, Diogo Queirós, Diogo Leite, Rúben Vinagre; Florentino, Gedson, Miguel Luís (83’, Pina); Jota (73’, Pedro Neto), Trincão (89’, Nuno Santos) and Rafael Leão.

Portugal locks horns with Argentina U-20 in round 2 of Group F on May 28, at 5:00 pm.
