Benfica will take part in the 2018 International Champions Cup. The presence in the prestigious pre-season competition that gathers the world's 18 "most iconic" teams was made official this Tuesday, in a press conference.
Apart from the Reds, for the 2018 edition, there are more 17 teams confirmed: Real Madrid, Atlético Madrid, Sevilha, Manchester City, Manchester United, Liverpool, Tottenham, Chelsea, Arsenal, Juventus, Roma, Inter, AC Milan, Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund, Paris Saint-Germain and FC Barcelona. In all, there are 18 the emblems (English, Spanish, Italian, French, German and one Portuguese) elected by the organization for being "some of the most iconic and influential in the world".
In the way of the Eagles is, first of all, Sevilla, in a re-edition of the 2014 Europa League final. The match is scheduled for July 20th, at Letzigrund Stadium, in Zurich, Switzerland. Then, Benfica will cross the Atlantic heading to the United States, where they will re-encounter two old acquaintances from the European competitions.
On July 25th, the red squad will lock horns with Borussia Dortmund, at the Heinz Field, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania State. Three days later, they will face Juventus, at the Red Bull Arena, in Harrison, New Jersey State.
It should be recalled that Benfica played in this stage three years ago – in 2015/16, the season in which it took part in this competition for the first time – when it faced New York Red Bulls. In that same season, the Reds played against PSG, in Toronto, Fiorentina, in the USA, and América, in México.
