Varandas Fernandes: "We expect a good result in the derby"

On the eve of the derby, the vice-president Varandas Fernandes points out that Benfica always wants more and is optimistic for the match at Sporting's home ground at 8:30 pm on Saturday, for the 33rd and penultimate round of the Liga NOS.

“It is important to be present in the Champions League, as it is important to be in Europe. It is important to be constantly winning, always on top, in the first place. When that is not possible, what we aspire is always the best. No Benfica fan is pleased with the results that unfortunately the team has been having, but tomorrow [Saturday] we expect a good result”, said Varandas Fernandes in an interview with TSF.

On Rui Vitória, the vice-president reiterates they the coach is “extraordinary” and someone who deserves the utmost respect, remembering that he led the team to the conquest of the last two national titles.

“It's no use criticizing the coach, it adds nothing positive. In the end, the aftermath and reflection will be made on what was the season. Rui Vitória is an extraordinary coach, two times National Champion at Benfica. He deserves respect”, he stated.

“Rui Vitória has a contract and Benfica normally chooses the stability. I think it will be that, within normal conditions, what will be established”, said the vice-president.
