“It is a huge emotion, I am filled with pride to see the respect and affection that these supporters still have for me. I lived a lot of things at this Club and it is very good to come back here. I have a special affection for the Benfica fans, as I know they have for me. It was one of the most important clubs of my career and every time I manage to come here, I am very pleased. I always wish the best for the Club and for my teammates”, he said, in statements to BTV.
“The only words I have for the supporters are words of gratitude, for having lived so many years at this Club. There will always exist a huge respect for Benfica, for the history of the Club and for the Benfica fans”, he confessed.
“I learned a lot at the Club. I learned the values of Benfica, I learned what it means to wear this jersey. All who go through here feel the club in a very special way. For me, it was a big surprise when I arrived, for the history, for the Club itself and for its amazing supporters. There was a very special chemistry, so, even after having left the club, I still follow the Club and wish them the best”, he said.
Javier Saviola was decisive in the 2009/10 "clássico" by scoring the only goal of Benfica's triumph over FC Porto by 1-0. A goal that was etched on the Argentine's memory as “the most important with Benfica's jersey”.
“It was the most important goal because it paved the way for a much-wanted title”, he confessed, remembering moments lived while representing the Reds.
“I had never seen so many people celebrating as in the year we were National Champions, at Marquês de Pombal”, he recalled, leaving a message to the supporters...
