Jonas, Fernando Pimenta, João Pereira and the men's roller hockey team deserved the distinction by the Sports Journalists' Association.
24 May 2018, 11h00
In the I Liga, Jonas won the Top Scorer Award, with 34 goals – the best mark from a Benfica player after Eusébio, in 1973 – and finished the season as one of Europe's top scorers, jointly with Messi. The forward from the Eagles also won the Liga NOS Player of the Month six times in a row.
The men's Roller Hockey squad deserves the award by the Sport's Journalist by the conquest of the Intercontinental Cup against Reus. In Spain, the competition took place in a final four format, with the eagles beating Andes Talleres from Argentina (7-4) and in the final, the Spanish of Reus after winning by 5-3.
In the triathlon, João Pereira became European Champion in Kitzbühel, in Austria, after completing the event in 1h45m31s. In 2017, Fernando Pimenta kept winning medals in the canoeing, with the greatest emphasis being given to the Gold medal won in The Czech Republic, in K1 5000 m, in the World Championships.
