Telma Monteiro was eliminated in the second combat of the Tokyo Grand Slam, last stage of the World Tour which closes the qualifying for the Saint Petersburg Masters, reserved to the 16 best athletes in the ranking by category.

The Benfica judoka (27th in the world), bronze medalist in the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, lost against the Hungarian Hedvig Karakas (28th), judoka against whom she had never been defeated in six clashes.

It should be remembered that, in 2010, the Portuguese judoka finished second in the capital of Japan, having won a medal in all the grand slams of the world tour.

Benfica fought until the end for a different outcome in the last 16 of the Club World Cup, but after extra time they fell to Chelsea (1-4), thus ending their journey in the first edition of the competition in the United States of America. In a game that was interrupted in the 86th minute due to the threat of a thunderstorm and ended almost five hours after the kick-off, Di María leveled the score at 90'+5' (1-1), taking the match into 30 minutes of extra time, during which time the result hung in the balance for the English at the Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte.
