The former eagles' goalkeeper, granted an interview to Fox Sports Brazil and, of course, Benfica was a topic of conversation.

Júlio César remembered the experience at the Club as something extraordinary that happened in his career.

“In 11 million inhabitants in Portugal, 80% of the population is a Benfica supporter”, he highlighted.

On Estádio da Luz and the badge he represented for three and a half seasons, the 38-year-old goalkeeper heaped praise.

“Estádio da Luz is so good that Arsenal built a stadium based on it. If you notice the architecture is the same, it was built by the same architects”, stated Júlio César.

“Benfica is known internationally, it is a historic club. They had Eusébio, who is the Portuguese Pelé, they won the European Cup twice, they have a beautiful stadium for 65 thousand fans, a museum and a training center that is extraordinary. Benfica is a powerhouse”, said the Brazilian.

Day 1 of a new journey

The 2025/26 preseason officially kicked off on Monday, July 14, with medical checks and physical tests between Hospital da Luz and Benfica Campus. In an atmosphere of reunions, renewed energy, and focus on what comes next, 28 players are present on this first day of work of Sport Lisboa e Benfica. Preparation will intensify on Tuesday, July 15, with the first pre-season training session scheduled for the morning, followed by another session in the afternoon at Benfica Campus.
