15 years of Estádio da Luz: memories of Saviola

“The affection from the supporters, the Championship won and the greatness of Benfica.” This is how, with regard to the 15th anniversary of the new Estádio da Luz, Saviola remembers the Club he defended for three seasons.

“For me, it is a great joy to have been part of this Club. I never had met a club with such history, with so many supporters – I think that was what surprised me the most. I would get astonished when we would play away and, even abroad, there was an impressive number of people watching us play”, he remembered, in exclusive statements to the Official Site.

Javier Saviola arrived at Benfica coming from Real Madrid in 2009/10 and helped the team win the national title in his debut season. On May 9, 2010: the Reds faced Rio Ave, at Estádio da Luz, with one hand in the Champions trophy. When they only needed a point, the Eagles won by 2-1 and celebrated the much-desired title, five years later.

“The best memory of all was when we won the Championship, with that team that made the supporters happy, with players with a spectacular quality and level. This is a beautiful memory. It was a great season”, he remembered.

“I will never forget the affection from the supporters, the Championship we won and the Club’s greatness”, guaranteed the former Argentinean forward.
