Jonas: all types of goals

Back in the center of the Benfica's attack, Jonas found the opponents' net in the last five matches he played as a starter – four in a row – and so far he has scored a total of five goals (in three different competitions).

"Pistolas" has scored after plays created on both flanks; all goals were scored inside the penalty box; he finished with both feet and with his head; three of the four goals were scored in open play situations; he celebrated at Luz and away from home; the assist provider was never the same. 

Jonas began the current season with some physical problems. When he recovered from injury, the forward returned to Rui Vitória's range of options. He has brought on in the matches against Desportivo das Aves and against GD Chaves and was a starter for the first time in the 3rd round of the Portuguese Cup match against Sertanense.

In Coimbra, Benfica won by 0-3 and Jonas sealed the result at 68’. After combination on the left side between Yuri Ribeiro and Ferreyra, the Portuguese left-back assisted the Brazilian who scored inside the penalty box with a right-footed shot.

Jonas' first strike in the 2018/19 Liga NOS was also his 100th goal in the competition. Against Moreirense, at Estádio da Luz, Benfica's number 10 opened the scoring very early do Benfica: at 2’, he beat Jhonatan with a left-footed shot. João Félix provided the assist.

The following match was the home game against Ajax for matchday 4 from Group E of the Champions League. After being pressured by Jonas, Onana, Ajax's goalkeeper, cleared the ball for a throw-in. On the right side, Salvio took the throw-in towards the penalty area, Onana failed the intervention and "Pistolas" performed a chest trap and made a right-footed shot. It was in the 29th minute of the match.

In matchday 10 of the Liga NOS, Benfica traveled to Tondela. At 9’, André Almeida delivered a cross towards the penalty box and Jonas beat Cláudio Ramos with a header. It was the equalizer.

Just over a month after the start of this scoring streak, the Portuguese Cup returned, this time against Arouca, at Luz and the Brazilian scored again. At 42’, Gabriel passed the ball to Seferovic. The forward ran down the flank, assisted Jonas on the edge of the box, who dribbled one opponent and inside the penalty box, delivered a right-footed shot that gave Rui Vieira no chance.
