Super Cup: all set for the first derby of 2019/20

Here's the first official game of the season and then with a trophy at stake. Benfica and Sporting look horns at Estádio Algarve, at 8:45 pm on Sunday and Official Website kicks off the Cândido de Oliveira Super Cup with the preview of the eternal derby.

Benfica-Sporting or Sporting-Benfica, whether at Luz, Alvalade or in a neutral ground is always a game of strong emotions and that nobody wants to miss. The two big clubs from Lisbon open the hostilities from 2019/20 with the fight for a trophy.

The Lions started the preparation first – June 27 –, but the first preseason match was on the same day: July 10, and with the same score: a 1-2 loss for the squad from the Portuguese capital.

Benfica arrives at the Super Cup after 41 goals scored and only four conceded in their nine matches.

Sporting arrives at the first official match of the season with negative balance of eight goals scored and 11 conceded.

In the Super Cup record, the numbers are in favor of Sporting. In the nine editions, they have been involved, they only lost one, in 1980, against Benfica. Otherwise, they always won and have eight Super Cups in their trophy cabinet.

With one less trophy - 7 - is Benfica. The reds, who seek the 81^st title of the their history, won three of the last four Cândido de Oliveira Super Cups in which they participated.
