“It is a feeling of great happiness, it is always good to know that the Club has confidence in us. I have no words to describe what the club has done for me over the years I feel very grateful with this important step in my career”, he confessed.
He arrived at Benfica in 2013/14, coming from Boavista FC, as an Under-15 player. In his debut season, he became U-15 National Champion and in 2017/18, he was champion again, but this time with the U-19 squad.
The young player began the 2019/20 preseason with the first team, then integrating the preparation work of the B team.
“It's an indescribable feeling to be able to share the dressing room with the first team. I would like to thank the structure for the vote of confidence. It was a very positive balance to be able to make my debut at Estádio da Luz knowing that when I arrived here I had this dream, every time I went to see games at the stadium I had the dream and ambition to step on to the pitch one day and that happened, and it was very good”, he said.
In 2018/19, he made a total of 41 matches and 13 goals, distributed between the 2nd Tier (30 matches and 7 goals), Premier League International Cup (2 matches, 1 goal), Liga Revelação (2 goals) and UEFA Youth League (7 matches, 5 goals).
The midfielder/forward is beginning his 3rd season in the B team, where he is currently the captain, having already played 44 matches in the 2nd Division.
Nuno Santos is a Portuguese international since March 25, 2015, and he has a total of 43 caps and 5 goals with the youth national teams: U-20 (10 matches and 2 goals), U-19 (11 matches), U-18 (5 matches and 2 goals), U-17 (13 matches and 1 goal) and U-16 (4 matches). He was U-19 European Champion in 2018, in Finland and also took part in the U-20 World Cup “Poland 2019”.
