Sport Lisboa e Benfica welcome UEFA's decision to choose Lisbon and Portugal as hosts of the quarter-finals, semi-finals and final of the Champions League, that will take place between August 12 and 23, in the context of the extraordinary circumstances caused by the global pandemic crisis.

It is a choice that makes Portuguese football proud and worthy recognition of the capacity of organization of the Portuguese Football Federation (FPF) and the quality of the existing infrastructure in our country to hold an event with this demand, starting with the stadiums that will host this final stage of the Champions League.

We also highlight the fact that our Estádio da Luz is once again the stage for a European final stage, which is a recognition of the choices made in upgrading the infrastructure and a huge source of pride.

Finally, it should be noted that this choice is recognition to Portugal and the Portuguese people, but also an expression of confidence and security in the way in which everyone has been able to respond to this crisis and thus mitigate its impacts at various level.

It made sense everything we did, it makes perfect sense to continue that effort. For us, for Portugal.

Benfica-Tirsense: extended match highlights (4-0)

In front of almost 50,000 spectators at the Estádio da Luz, Benfica confirmed their qualification for the 2024/2025 Portuguese Cup final on Wednesday night, April 23, by beating Tirsense 4-0 in the second leg of the semi-final (goals from António Silva, Bajrami, Belotti and Barreiro). In the first game, the Eagles had won 0-5. Thus, with a 9-0 aggregate in the semi-final, the Glorioso reached the decisive match of the Portuguese Cup for the 39th time. On their way to Jamor, the Reds overcame Pevidém (0-2), Estrela da Amadora (7-0), Farense (1-3), SC Braga (1-0) and, finally, Tirsense in a two-legged tie.

A moving tribute to Humberto Coelho

Having celebrated his 75th birthday on Sunday, April 20, Humberto Coelho received a heartfelt and well-deserved tribute on Wednesday, April 23, at the Estádio da Luz, during half-time of the Benfica-Tirsense (4-0) second leg of the Portuguese Cup semi-finals. Captain for many years, he wore the Manto Sagrado for “14 fantastic seasons” and, on the pitch, he gave a special thanks to the fans. "This is more than soul, it's an extraordinary mystique! Only at Benfica can you feel this recognition and this glory and memory of having played for the best club in the world," said the former central defender.
