Diogo Gonçalves, 23, renewed his contract with Benfica until 2025 and is back at the Club after one season on loan at Famalicão, where he made a good evolution, finishing 2019/20 with 34 matches and seven goals in all competitions.
"It is a feeling of pride and that the work was well done. I was away for two years, it was two years of growth. I'm ready to work and, if the gaffer so chooses, seize the opportunity", he claimed, in statements with BTV.
The youngster nurtured at Benfica Campus – he made his debut in the eagles' first team in the 2017/18 season and had the opportunity to play in the domestic competition and the Champions League – was part of the sensation team of the last edition of the Liga NOS e and had a predominant role in the very positive campaign of João Pedro Sousa's men, which culminated with the 6th place in the competition.

The good displays didn't go unnoticed. Benfica's new coach, Jorge Jesus, will observe Diogo Gonçalves during the pre-season, and the youngster has even set goals.
"The objectives are to work on a daily basis, with my colleagues, learn as much as possible from the gaffer and help Benfica to achieve its goals", he higlighted.
