Rafe, a Benfica player, was called up by the national coach, Fernando Santos, for Portugal's matches against Spain, France, and Sweden.

Among the players named, it is worth mentioning, in addition to Rafa, the presence of eight footballers who had a spell at Sport Lisboa e Benfica’s youth ranks: João Cancelo, Nélson Semedo, Rúben Dias, Mário Rui, Danilo, Renato Sanches, Bernardo Silva and João Félix. 

The three-match cycle kicks off with the friendly against Spain on October 7, at Estádio José Alvalade. The matches against France (October 11, at Stade de France) and Sweden (October 14, at Estádio José Alvalade) are for the Nations League group stage.
