The center-back of Sport Lisboa e Benfica Nicolás Otamendi has won, this dawn, the Copa America. At Estádio Maracanã, Rio de Janeiro, Argentina beat Brasil, by 1-0.

According to Sofascore, Otamendi (90 minutes played) made two steals, blocked two shots, made four tackles and four interceptions. Won four of the eight ground duels and one of the two aerials. The Argentinian also had 81% passing accuracy.

With Brasil, Everton was replaced at 63’. Finished the match with 73% passing accuracy (8 out of 11) and did not miss one single long pass (100%). Won two of the four ground duels.

Saturday night, August 23, marked the return of the Liga Betclic to the Cathedral. With strong support from the nearly 62,000 fans who brought color and life to the stands at Estádio da Luz on Saturday night, August 23, Benfica beat Tondela 3-0 in the Matchday 3 of the Liga Betclic 2025/26. Ivanovic (31'), Aursnes (42') and Prestianni (90'+6') sealed the victory and earned three more points in the main national.

With an 8-goal advantage (26-18), the women's handball team of Benfica defeated Madeira SAD and won the 5th Super Cup, this Saturday, August 23, at the Pavilhão Multiusos de Sines. The game was marked by a special tribute from both teams to the Humanitarian Association of Volunteer Firefighters of Sines. Foundation offers a helping hand to Cape Verde

The President of the Republic of Cape Verde, José Maria Neves, visited Estádio da Luz for a meeting with Carlos Moia, executive president of the Benfica Foundation, dedicated to humanitarian aid for the island of São Vicente, recently affected by a severe storm. The head of state emphasized the “long-standing and close relationship” between Cape Verde and Benfica, noting that this cooperation “will have a very strong impact on São Vicente”. Carlos Moia stressed that “the people themselves and their needs are important,” guaranteeing that all hospital supplies will be in Cape Verde by mid-September.

Back from Turkey, Benfica's professional football team continued the preparations on Friday morning, August 22, for the visit of Tondela, at the Benfica Campus. Fully focused, Bruno Lage's players trained on the pitch ahead of Saturday's game (8:30 pm) at Estádio da Luz, in Matchday 3 of the Liga Betclic.

Early morning preparation

On Turkish soil, the morning after the Champions League play-off match against Fenerbahçe at the Sükrü Saraçoğlu Stadium, Benfica's professional football team put to work at the Besiktas training center facilities, already preparing for the match against Tondela, from Matchday 3 of the Liga Betclic,  scheduled for 8:30 pm, on Saturday at Estádio da Luz. Only the athletes who were not used and the substitutes who played in the Istanbul match trained on the pitch – the rest underwent active recovery in the gym on Thursday, August 21.
