Central defender Tomás Araújo won the Liga 2 Defender of the Month award, for December, collecting 14.81% of the votes from the coaches of the competing teams.

The 19-year-old defender beat Rocha, who represents GD Chaves, with 14,07% of the votes, and Leonardo Lelo, from Casa Pia,who achieved 10.37% of the votes.

Benfica fought until the end for a different outcome in the last 16 of the Club World Cup, but after extra time they fell to Chelsea (1-4), thus ending their journey in the first edition of the competition in the United States of America. In a game that was interrupted in the 86th minute due to the threat of a thunderstorm and ended almost five hours after the kick-off, Di María leveled the score at 90'+5' (1-1), taking the match into 30 minutes of extra time, during which time the result hung in the balance for the English at the Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte.
