Benfica already knows the lot of possible opponents in the 3rd qualifying round for the Champions League. The draw, which will take place in Nyon, Switzerland, is scheduled for July 18. The Reds are one of the seeded teams.

The 3rd qualifying round of the Champions League will be played on August 2 and 3 (first league) and on Aug 9 (second league). If they qualify, Benfica will play the play-off on August 16 or 17 (first leg) and August 23 or 24 (second leg).

Benfica fought until the end for a different outcome in the last 16 of the Club World Cup, but after extra time they fell to Chelsea (1-4), thus ending their journey in the first edition of the competition in the United States of America. In a game that was interrupted in the 86th minute due to the threat of a thunderstorm and ended almost five hours after the kick-off, Di María leveled the score at 90'+5' (1-1), taking the match into 30 minutes of extra time, during which time the result hung in the balance for the English at the Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte.
