Women's Basketeball
The 2022/23 season marks the debut of Benfica's women's team in European competitions.
15 July 2022, 15h39
Competition
The reds are in Group G of Conference 2, along with BCF Elfic Fribourg (Switzerland), Basket Namur Capitale (Belgium) and Basket T71 Diddeleng (Luxembourg). A "balanced" group, with "strong teams", according to Maria Pardelhas, team manager of SL Benfica, who followed the draw in Germany.
"It is important to highlight that this is the first participation of SL Benfica's women's basketball team in a European competition. Any team we were drawn against would be a great team, they will always be interesting games to watch and with a lot of quality. We were lucky that we didn't get any Spanish or French opponents - which, in theory, are stronger teams, they are higher up in the ranking -, but we got Fribourg from Switzerland, Namur from Belgium, who are both champions of their leagues, and Diddeleng too, a team who are champions of their league, but until now have not participated in European competitions, just like Benfica", explained the team manager to BTV.
"It's a balanced group, they are strong teams, I would say Namur will be the favorite in the group because Belgium is a basketball country. We can, in this group, play good games", considered Maria Pardelhas.
