Benfica's Pedro Pablo Pichardo, is among the 10 nominees for the 2022 world athlete award, World Athletics announced on Thursday, October 13.

This year, the triple jump Olympic champion won gold medals in the World Championships (Eugene, United States) and in the European Championships (Munich, Germany) and also won silver medals in the World Athletics Indoor Championships (Belgrade, Serbia) and in the Diamond League (Zurich, Switzerland).

Pedro Pablo Pichardo faces competition from athletes Mondo Duplantis (high jump), Jakob Ingebrigtsen (1500 and 5000 meters), Eliud Kipchoge (marathon), Kristjan Ceh (discus throw), Alison dos Santos (400 meters hurdles), Soufian El Bakkali (3000 meters hurdles), Grant Holloway (110 meter hurdles), Noah Lyles (200 meters) and Anderson Peters (javelin throw).

The prize is awarded by voting, and this can be done through World Athletics' social networks, where the nominees will be published, namely on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and YouTube. Voting ends on Monday, October 31.
