The Benfica players Otamendi and Enzo were crowned this Sunday, December 18, as World Champions for the Argentinean national team, who beat France in the penalty shootout in the final of the Qatar 2022 World Cup. Enzo was also awarded the Best Young Player of the competition!

Otamendi and Enzo were starters in a match controlled for almost 80 minutes by Argentina, which went to the break winning 2-0 (with goals from Messi, through a penalty kick, and from the former Benfica player Di María).

Enzo

The French pulled one back when in the 80th minute, Otamendi fouled Tchouaméni inside the box. Mbappé successfully took the penalty and in the next minute tied the match at two goals.

The match went into extra time and there was more entertainment for those watching the final, held at the Lusail Stadium. Messi scored again in the match (3-2), but Mbappé fought back and tied the match again (3-3).

Golo Argentina

In the penalty shootout, Argentina was stronger. Coman and Tchouaméni missed for the Gauls, and Montiel ended up taking the penalty that gave the Albicelestes their 3rd World Cup title.

A celebration for the Argentinians, who witnessed yet another relevant moment when Enzo received the award for Best Young Player of the competition.

Otamendi and Enzo became the first players to be crowned World Champions while representing a Portuguese club, in this case SL Benfica!
