Benfica qualified for the quarterfinals of the Champions League this Tuesday, March 7.  With another great display, the eagles thrashed Club Brugge by 5-1, in the 2nd leg of the round of 16.

At 38'Rafa (considered the Man of The Match by UEFA) took advantage of a pass from Gonçalo Ramos, and scored the 1-0. 12th goal from Rafa in the season, Benfica 100th goal in 2022/23!

The number 88, who moments before had assisted for the 1-0, also put his name in the goal sheet. An impeccable work of Gonçalo Ramos, who finished the play with a powerful shot. It was 45'+2' of the 1st half, and Benfica went back to the dressing room leading 2-0

At 57'Gonçalo Ramos, assisted by Grimaldo, scored the 3-0. His 23rd goal of the season.

Gilberto was brought down inside the penalty box at 70', and João Mário scored the 4-0 from the penalty spot. Twenty goals from the number 20, who scored for the fifth consecutive match in the Champions League.

In the 77th minute, Neres, assisted by João Neves, scored the 5-0.

Meijer, at 87', with an unstoppable shot, closed the score at 5-1.

Halil Umut Meler soon after whistled for the end of the match and the Benfica team celebrated qualifying for the quarterfinals (for the 2nd consecutive year, which is unprecedented in the current format of the competition) in front of 61,018 spectators who were present at the Cathedral.

The Reds will meet their next opponent in the Champions League on March 17. For now, they turn their attention to the Liga Bwin, as this Sunday, March 12, they face Marítimo in Madeira, at 6 pm, on matchday 24.
