João Neves and Samuel Soares, players from Benfica's first team, Tomás Araújo, Paulo Bernardo, Tiago Dantas and Henrique Araújo (on loan) are part of national coach Rui Jorge's squad list for the U-21 European Championships that will take place in Georgia and Romania, between June 21 and July 8.

 

João Neves may make his official debut for the Under-21s, he is a U-19 (17 games and three goals) and U-15 (four games) international. The midfielder from the Algarve and Samuel Soares are part of the National Champion 2022/23 squad, while Tomás Araújo (Gil Vicente), Paulo Bernardo (Paços de Ferreira), Tiago Dantas (PAOK) and Henrique Araújo (Watford) finished the season on loan.

The squad meets on June 7. Portugal is in group A and will start the competition against Georgia on June 21, at 5 pm (8 pm local time), at Paichadze Stadium, in Tiblisi.

The second match is against the Netherlands on June 24, at 5 pm (8 pm local time), at the Meskhi Stadium, in Tiblíssi, while the third match will take place at the same place and time against Belgium on June 27.

On Tuesday, August 5, Benfica finalized preparations for the first leg of the third qualifying round of the Champions League against Nice. In the morning, the team held a training session at Benfica Campus, which also hosted the preview press conferences with Bruno Lage and Schjelderup.  After that, they headed to Beja, where they got a warm welcome from hundreds of Benfica fans before hopping on a charter flight. Benfica is already in France (they landed tonight) in Nice, where the game is set for 8:00 pm (Mainland Portugal time) on Wednesday, August 6.
