The two Benfica players are the only Portuguese in a list of 100 candidates.
20 June 2023, 15h05
António Silva and João Neves
Unlike previous editions, the election will not be based exclusively on the votes of sports journalists, and will take into account statistical criteria: minutes played by the player, coefficient of the leagues where they play, presences in national teams and titles won.
In the first ranking of the 100 nominees, António Silva is in 4th place behind Gavi (Barcelona), Bellingham (who recently transferred from Dortmund to Real Madrid), and Musiala (Bayern). João Neves, in turn, is currently in 62nd place.
It should be noted that two players nurtured at Benfica Campus, Renato Sanches and João Félix, have already won this award in 2016 and 2019, respectively.
