João Duarte Vale Afonso, 16-year-old winger (15/02/2007), was signed by Sport Lisboa e Benfica from Penafiel.

In the 2022/23 season, as a U16 player, João Afonso scored six goals in 29 games played by the Penafiel U17. Between 2016 and 2018, the winger was integrated in the Braga Development and Training Center, where he worked under Benfica's Training Methodology. The athlete, who is preparing for his 3rd season with eagle on his chest, also had spells at FC Romariz, FC Porto and Dragon Force FC.

Speaking to BTV, João Afonso described himself as a fast and strong dribbling player and assured that his arrival at Benfica is the culmination of an old dream. "It's a very special day for me. It's the first contract I've ever signed and for a big club. It's been my dream since I was a kid", he said.

In front of almost 50,000 spectators at the Estádio da Luz, Benfica confirmed their qualification for the 2024/2025 Portuguese Cup final on Wednesday night, April 23, by beating Tirsense 4-0 in the second leg of the semi-final (goals from António Silva, Bajrami, Belotti and Barreiro). In the first game, the Eagles had won 0-5. Thus, with a 9-0 aggregate in the semi-final, the Glorioso reached the decisive match of the Portuguese Cup for the 39th time. A moving tribute to Humberto Coelho

Having celebrated his 75th birthday on Sunday, April 20, Humberto Coelho received a heartfelt and well-deserved tribute on Wednesday, April 23, at the Estádio da Luz, during half-time of the Benfica-Tirsense (4-0) second leg of the Portuguese Cup semi-finals. Captain for many years, he wore the Manto Sagrado for “14 fantastic seasons” and, on the pitch, he gave a special thanks to the fans. "This is more than soul, it's an extraordinary mystique! Only at Benfica can you feel this recognition and this glory and memory of having played for the best club in the world," said the former central defender.
