On Matchday 2 of the World Cup group stage, Nigeria's national team beat tournament organizers Australia (along with New Zealand) 2-3 on Thursday, July 27 in Brisbane. The benfiquista Christy Ucheibe was a starter and played the full 90 minutes. 

With this result, Nigeria (four points) share the lead in Group B of the competition with Canada, although they have the advantage in the number of goals scored. In the last round of the group stage, the Africans will face the Republic of Ireland, again in Brisbane, at 11:00 am on Monday, July 31.
