PREVIEW

Highlighting the ambition of the group to win another trophy, Otamendi, Benfica's captain, launched the clash this Wednesday, August 9, where the Cândido de Oliveira Super Cup will be in dispute.

Otamendi

What could make the difference for Benfica in the Super Cup match?

I think the intensity applied during the game will be important, because we know FC Porto and we know the intensity they put on the pitch. We will try to be intense and control the game. I think we have the players to do that and put in a good display.

You have played in several "clássicos" in your career. Does this one, as it's the first of the new season, and it's worth a title, give the players more anxiety?

It's always nice to play in a "clássico", especially when there's a title at stake. It's important to win because titles are what set you apart from the rest. The trophy is important for the club, but also for the players. It's good to see titles on your CV when you stop playing, because your kids will recognize your effort. Tomorrow [Wednesday] will be a good day, and we will do everything to win the Super Cup.

You have won this trophy on three occasions, and there are few players on the team who have won the Super Cup. Does the psychological factor play a role, or do you downplay that statistic?

Sometimes the anxiety of winning a trophy can play against you, but tomorrow [Wednesday] there is a title at stake and all the players will want to win it. It's a final and a "clássico" that's worth a title. We'll try to do everything we can to win it and hopefully we'll be happy at the end of the game.

"In recent days I have trained well with the team and I feel comfortable. Physically, I'm fine and ready to be an option for the manager. If I play, I will do it in the best way"

Do you feel fully recovered from your injury and have the pace you need to play?

I've been training very well. I've only played one friendly match, but the fitness coach has been pushing me. As I wasn't with the team for the first few weeks, it was twice as demanding. In recent days I have trained well with the team and I feel comfortable. Physically, I'm fine and ready to be an option for the manager. If I play, I will do it in the best way.
