Eduardo Nunes Fernandes, a 16-year-old winger (24/03/2007), has signed a professional contract with Sport Lisboa e Benfica.

The player started his career at Trofense and also passed through Vitória SC before being signed by Benfica in 2018/19.

"It's a special feeling. I'm proud, and I promise to give everything for this club. I had already felt this responsibility when I signed the youth development contract, but now it is much greater. These six years at Benfica have been great, and I will continue to work to reach the first team, a goal that everyone wants to achieve," said the player who, in 2022/23, scored seven goals in 18 matches with the U-16s and played one game with the U-17s.

The winger has also been a regular in Portugal's youth teams, scoring two goals in five games for the Under-16s and two goals in six games for the Under-15s.

Benfica fought until the end for a different outcome in the last 16 of the Club World Cup, but after extra time they fell to Chelsea (1-4), thus ending their journey in the first edition of the competition in the United States of America. In a game that was interrupted in the 86th minute due to the threat of a thunderstorm and ended almost five hours after the kick-off, Di María leveled the score at 90'+5' (1-1), taking the match into 30 minutes of extra time, during which time the result hung in the balance for the English at the Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte.
