Fernando Pimenta won this Sunday, August 27, the silver medal in K1 5000 meters. This way, the canoeist of Benfica ended his participation reaching the podium in all his races in the 2023 World Championships, in Duisburg.

With a strong start, the gold medalist in K1 1000m and bronze in K1 500m led the race from the beginning and imposed a strong pace during the six laps of the course.

Fernando Pimenta ended up losing the lead to Danish Mads Pedersen in one of the stops, when he had difficulties in starting when he returned to the water. The Portuguese canoeist finished with a time of 20:09.974 minutes against the 19:55,467 of the world champion.

At the end of the race, Fernando Pimenta congratulated João Ribeiro and Messias Baptista (his teammates at Benfica) for the K2 500 meters win.

A moving tribute to Humberto Coelho

Having celebrated his 75th birthday on Sunday, April 20, Humberto Coelho received a heartfelt and well-deserved tribute on Wednesday, April 23, at the Estádio da Luz, during half-time of the Benfica-Tirsense (4-0) second leg of the Portuguese Cup semi-finals. Captain for many years, he wore the Manto Sagrado for “14 fantastic seasons” and, on the pitch, he gave a special thanks to the fans. "This is more than soul, it's an extraordinary mystique! Only at Benfica can you feel this recognition and this glory and memory of having played for the best club in the world," said the former central defender.
