League Cup: Benfica's opponents and matches in the group stage

Benfica will face Arouca and AVS in group B of the 2023/24 League Cup, according to the draw made on Monday, September 11, in Porto.

The Reds begin their participation in the competition with a visit to Arouca on matchday 2 of the group, and on matchday 3 they welcome AVS to Estádio da Luz. The fixture schedule was released by Liga Portugal on Wednesday, September 13.

This season, the competition has been reconfigured. The 12 teams still in the competition are divided into four groups with three teams each. The first-placed team in each of these groups will qualify for the final-four of the competition in Leiria: the semi-finals are scheduled for January 23 and 24 and the final for January 27.

Reacting to the draw, Luisão, Benfica's technical director of professional football, gave an account of the team's ambitions in this competition: "We always think it's going to be difficult. We know the difficulties of facing Arouca and AVS and of playing in this competition, which has grown every year. We have to take a different approach to last season, right from the first game of the first phase, because we want to be in the final four and win."
