Roger Schmidt

Roger Schmidt

In the analysis of Benfica's ictory over Famalicão (2-0), in the 4th round of the Portuguese Cup, played on Saturday, November 25, at Estádio da Luz, Roger Schmidt felt that the Reds justified their victory and their passage to the last 16 of the competition.

Benfica-Famalicão

ABILITY TO OVERCOME AN ORGANIZED OPPONENT

"It was a difficult game, as we expected. Famalicão is a very good team, very young, very talented and very organized. You have to be patient, especially when the chances you create don't materialize. We had good chances in the first half and also at the start of the second half, but we didn't put them away, and they also proved to be dangerous in transition and on counter-attacks."

PATIENCE IN A "TOUGH BATTLE"

"It was a cup game. We kept our cool, we were patient, and we deserved to win, but it was a tough battle. Goals always come at the perfect time, whether at the start or the end. When we don't score, it's important to defend very carefully and not allow our rivals to create chances to score, because if they do, the game becomes more difficult. We didn't concede, and we won. With our second goal and the red card [to Otávio], I think the game was decided."

COLLECTIVE "GOOD ATTITUDE" HIGHLIGHTED

"In the first half and also in the second, Famalicão had their moments, but we did well. It's not easy to play after the international break, especially in a cup game. You can't make mistakes, because if you lose, you're out of the competition. That's why my players had to show a good attitude and accept the different phases of the game. I think we created a lot of chances and then put a few of them away. That's why we won."

GONÇALO GUEDES WITH SMALL PROBLEM

"[Gonçalo Guedes] had a little problem in training. He didn't feel well, but hopefully he'll be back soon."
