Diogo Ribeiro secured his place in the final of the 100-meter butterfly on Friday, February 16, after winning the second semi-final. Another event in his category at the World Aquatics Championships, which are taking place in Doha (Qatar).

The young swimmer from Benfica covered the distance in 51.30 seconds, the best time among the 16 participants in the semi-finals, and beat the previous national record (51.45 seconds) that he had set in April 2023, in Funchal. Earlier, in the qualifying rounds, Diogo Ribeiro had come 3rd in his heat with a time of 51.78 seconds, the 5th best overall.

The world champion in the 50-meter butterfly will compete in the final of the 100-meter butterfly this Saturday, February 17, starting at 4:42 pm (mainland Portugal time).

In the morning, Diogo Ribeiro and Miguel Nascimento were also in action in the 50-meter freestyle preliminaries. The two Benfica swimmers competed in the 11th heat and were unable to secure access to the semi-finals: Diogo Ribeiro came 5th and Miguel Nascimento 7th, with times of 22.14 seconds and 22.25 seconds, respectively.
