António Silva celebrates another Portugal goal with Nélson Semedo

On Thursday, March 21, several players from Benfica's professional football squad were involved in national team commitments. But there are more records to report.

In Guimarães, in the friendly match between Portugal and Sweden, António Silva come on at half-time, while João Neves was brought on in the 62nd minute. The two Reds players took part in the 5-2 win for the Portugal national team. Samuel Soares recruited from the Under-21s to complete the squad of goalkeepers for this match, didn't come off the bench.

Fighting for one of the last three places at the 2024 European Championship, Trubin didn't play in the match in which Ukraine qualified for the final of the European Championship 2024 qualifying play-off after beating Bosnia and Herzegovina 1-2. The decisive match will be against Iceland on Tuesday, March 26 at 7:4 pm.

Tomás Araújo

In the qualifying match for the 2025 European Championship that took place in Faro, at the Estádio de São Luís, central defender Tomás Araújo was one of the players selected for the starting eleven of the U-21 National Team, playing full-time (90') in Portugal's 4-0 victory.

Members of the Eagles' B team, youngsters Rafael Rodrigues (90') and Pedro Santos (88') were also starters in the Algarve, as was Paulo Bernardo (90'), on loan from Celtic. Martim Neto (2'), on loan to Gil Vicente, came on towards the end of the game.

In Spain, left-back Álvaro Carreras started the Under-21 game against Slovakia (0-2). The left-back came off at half-time, as did all his teammates.

André Gomes

The first internationals to play on Thursday were the Portugal Under-20s. At the Estádio José Gomes (Reboleira), goalkeeper André Gomes came on as a starter (90') in the friendly match against Czechia (2-2 draw).

Also included in the starting line-up were Nuno Félix (90'), Hugo Félix (90') and Diogo Prioste (82'), young players who are developing in Benfica's B team. Prioste captained the Portuguese side and provided the assist for the first goal. Nuno Félix was involved in the 2-2 move, with a header that hit the bar, providing an accurate rebound. José Melro, from the Reds' Under-23s, came on in the 65th minute.
