I Congresso Internacional na América do Sul

Benfica was represented at the Congress

At the invitation of the River Plate Foundation, the Benfica Foundation was present on March 18 and 19 as a speaker at the 1st International Congress in South America.

Under the theme of the role and impact of football and how it can further enhance the inclusion and development of communities, this initiative was a milestone.

Despite the work already done by many clubs, their foundations, federations and CONMEBOL itself, this was the first time that there had been a space for everyone to share and try to organize together.

Benfica, through the Benfica Foundation, represented by director Jorge Miranda, had the honor of being the only European club to participate in person, sharing its experience and know-how from 15 years of social work.

They also expressed their willingness to identify lines of joint collaboration, through technical training and the development of social projects in partnership.

All the countries were represented, some of them with large entourages involving several clubs. Former players Javier Zanetti and Juan Pablo Sorín, as examples of the role that athletes can play in this common cause, were also present.

The UEFA Foundation for Children was also present, thus also demonstrating the importance of this event.

It should be noted that the Benfica Foundation is a member of the European Football for Development Network and the creation of a similar network in South America, taking into account the social needs, but also the enormous passion for football, creates a perfect scenario for social intervention through Sport and, in particular, Football.
