Kokubo, goalkeeper in Benfica's professional football squad, was a starter in the Japan U-23's friendly match against their Ukrainian counterparts on Monday, March 25, in Fukuoka, Japan.

The keeper played the full 90 minutes and contributed to the 2-0 win, thus concluding the Japanese team's preparatory period, which also included a game against Mali (1-3).
