João Neves

João Neves, SL Benfica footballer, was voted Young Promise in the 2023 Sportsperson of the Year awards, a distinction voted for by the public and those present at the 27th Portuguese Sports Gala, held on Friday night, May 3, at the Pavilhão Carlos Lopes in Lisbon, which is the responsibility of the Portuguese Sports Confederation (CDP).

The midfielder from the eagles' professional football team was on the list of five chosen for the Young Talent category for his performance over the past year, and he was the big winner.

Of the seven Benfica athletes competing for the CDP awards, Olympic swimmer Diogo Ribeiro won in the Male Athlete category, beating fellow Benfica athlete Fernando Pimenta (canoeing).

Finally, the K2 500 meters (canoeing) duo of João Ribeiro and Messias Baptista were contenders in the Team category, a distinction won by the National Women's Senior Team (football).

Remember that the winners of the six award categories determined by CDP were chosen through an online vote by the public and those present at the 27th Portuguese Sports Gala.
