Benfica's Diogo Ferreira, Duarte Soares, Eduardo Fernandes and Rui Silva were included in the provisional squad on Tuesday, May 7, to represent Portugal at the European Under-17 Championship, which will be held in Cyprus between May 20 and June 5.

The 21 preliminary squad members will gather this Sunday, May 12, at Cidade do Futebol, where they will prepare for the tournament until May 17. The day before, on the 16th, coach João Santos will announce the final list of 20 players with a ticket to Cyprus.

Portugal's U-17 team is in Group D of the European Championship, where it will play Spain (May 21), England (May 24) and France (May 27). The top two teams in each group qualify for the quarter-finals.

Benfica-Tirsense: extended match highlights (4-0)

In front of almost 50,000 spectators at the Estádio da Luz, Benfica confirmed their qualification for the 2024/2025 Portuguese Cup final on Wednesday night, April 23, by beating Tirsense 4-0 in the second leg of the semi-final (goals from António Silva, Bajrami, Belotti and Barreiro). In the first game, the Eagles had won 0-5. Thus, with a 9-0 aggregate in the semi-final, the Glorioso reached the decisive match of the Portuguese Cup for the 39th time. On their way to Jamor, the Reds overcame Pevidém (0-2), Estrela da Amadora (7-0), Farense (1-3), SC Braga (1-0) and, finally, Tirsense in a two-legged tie.

A moving tribute to Humberto Coelho

Having celebrated his 75th birthday on Sunday, April 20, Humberto Coelho received a heartfelt and well-deserved tribute on Wednesday, April 23, at the Estádio da Luz, during half-time of the Benfica-Tirsense (4-0) second leg of the Portuguese Cup semi-finals. Captain for many years, he wore the Manto Sagrado for “14 fantastic seasons” and, on the pitch, he gave a special thanks to the fans. "This is more than soul, it's an extraordinary mystique! Only at Benfica can you feel this recognition and this glory and memory of having played for the best club in the world," said the former central defender.
