Benfica judoka Telma Monteiro won the gold medal in the -57 kg event at the Abidjan Open, which took place on June 8 and 9 in the Ivory Coast.

The red athlete overcame Ivorian Aminata Bamba in the semi-finals and, in the final, beat Nigerian Amara Udeze, who had beaten Kadiatou Diakite (Ivory Coast) in the previous round.

COP distinguishes Benfica athletes

Benfica athletes Telma Monteiro and Pedro Pichardo were honored by the Portuguese Olympic Committee (COP) on Thursday, November 14, at the 2024 Olympic Celebration, a gala held at SUD Hall Lisbon. Judoka Telma Monteiro was awarded the Prestige Award, which honors “sports agents for the excellence, notability and prestige of their careers”. Pedro Pichardo, triple jump athlete and Paris 2024 silver medalist, received the Sports Excellence Award, which is given to “Olympic medalists, World or European Champions”. Domingos Almeida Lima, Benfica's vice-president, represented the club at the ceremony.
