Otamendi took the decisive penalty against Ecuador.
05 July 2024, 10h00
Otamendi
The center-back came off the bench – where there was also Di María – in the 78th minute, when Argentina were leading 1-0 – a goal from Lautaro Martínez in the 35th minute – and saw the Ecuadorians equalize in the 90th minute through Kevin Rodríguez, making the score 1-1 in regulation time.
In the penalty shootout, the series began with Lionel Messi missing goal from 11 meters, something that Mena and Minda also did for the Ecuadorians. Otamendi took the last penalty, making the score 4-2.
In the semi-final, Argentina will face the winner of the match between Venezuela and Canada, to take place in the early hours of July 10 (Wednesday).
