Benfica-UD Almería

Beste

After Benfica's win over Almeria (3-1), this Sunday, July 21, in Thonon-les-Bains, France, left-back Beste was very pleased with the way the team's pre-season is going and also with his debut with the eagle on his chest.

I'm very happy to be here, to be playing my first game at this beautiful and great club. I'm very happy to be playing with my teammates. I trained with them for a week and now I've been able to play,” said the German defender, who provided the assist for João Mário's third goal for the eagles.

The new signing highlighted the positive way in which he is adapting to this new stage in his career: “It's been special. A new country, a new language, but the whole Club, the staff and my teammates are so nice. We can all speak English, so there's no problem. It's been very easy to adapt.”

The good connection with coach Roger Schmidt was also praised by Beste. “I feel good. I spoke to the coach before I came to Benfica, I know his ideas. Playing left-back is natural for me. I'm happy to be here and I hope to do well,” he told Sport TV.

The ambition is big for 2024/25 and the way ahead is to stay focused on a daily basis. “I'm very excited about the season. Of course we're fighting for titles, but we have to keep working. I'm sure it's going to be a good season,” he said.

Enthusiastic about the atmosphere, Beste praised the Benfiquistas. “In my first week, the fans have been unbelievable. It's not like that in Germany. I'm very happy, we have a lot of fans in Portugal, in Switzerland, in France, we have fans everywhere. Let's keep it up,” he concluded.
