24 July 2024, 10h30

Marit Lund, 26, has joined the Sport Lisboa e Benfica's, women's football team from SK Brann. A Norway international, she has signed a contract with the eagles until 2027.

Used to playing on the left flank, Marit Lund will become part of the four-time national champions' routine at Benfica Campus in the coming days.

The left-footed player, who used to play for Brann, is moving to “a very big club”, as she told BTV.

"Benfica is a very big club, and it's a big step for me. I'm very excited about coming here to play," she said.

"I know it's a very big club, with a lot of history in men's football, and also in women's football, which plays in the Champions League and has won the title in the last four editions of the Championship," said Marit Lund

When asked about her goals, the Nordic athlete is focused on contributing to the success of the Inspiradoras' journey.

"I want to win and help Benfica achieve its goals and also play in the Champions League," said the 26-year-old, who will play outside Norway at the ”right time".

"I think it's very good for me to be playing abroad. I'm very happy to be here," she claimed.

"Very excited” about this new step in her career, Marit Lund says she is ‘ready’ to take on the responsibility of playing with an eagle on her chest. Like Benfica last season, she also reached the quarter-finals of the Champions League for Brann, and for 2024/25 she admits that she wants to “go further”.

The most recent signing for the eagles' women's football team is also looking forward to playing in front of the Benfiquistas and left a promise: "I hope we can play exciting football, win lots of games, and I'm looking forward to playing in front of all the fans. Now I understand how big this club is, it's fantastic! Benfica has so many sports and trophies... I'm very impressed! I can't wait to get started, to play at the Estádio da Luz, to play in front of our fans. It's a huge stadium, I've been here before... it's been extraordinary, and it will be a dream to play at Estádio da Luz."
