Otamendi, Benfica's defender and captain, played a part in Argentina's 0-2 win over Ukraine on matchday 3 of Group B at the Paris 2024 Olympic Football Tournament, which sealed qualification for the quarter-finals. The match took place on Tuesday, July 30, at the Lyon Stadium.

The Benfica central defender wore the captain's armband for the entire match, making four clearances, one tackle, one block and winning one aerial duel and one on the ground, according to the Sofascore platform. Otamendi touched the ball on 96 occasions and completed 85 of 87 attempted passes (98 percent effectiveness), with six long passes standing out.

The first goal of the match was scored by Thiago Almada (0-1) after 47 minutes, and Claudio Echeverri made it 0-2 at 90'.

The Argentinians finished the group stage with six points, which earned them 2nd place in Group B. In the quarter-finals of the competition, the Argentinian team will meet France, the first-placed team in Group A, in a match scheduled for 8 pm (9 pm local time) on Friday, August 2, at the Bordeaux Stadium.

Before and after the match from matchday 21 of the Liga BPI, against Clube de Albergaria (5-0), the women's football team of Benfica was showered with crowds while celebrating their 5th league in a row. The afternoon began with an autograph session attended by hundreds of fans and, at the end of the game, there was time to lift the trophy and take it to the central stand of Benfica Campus Field No. 1, in a celebration in total communion with the fans.
