Aursnes renews until 2029

Sport Lisboa e Benfica and midfielder Aursnes – who had a contract with the club until 2027 - have agreed to renew their contract for another two seasons. The new contract is valid until 2029.

Speaking to BTV after renewing his contract, the midfielder expressed his satisfaction. “I'm very happy to renew my contract. I'm very happy at Benfica and I love Lisbon and Portugal,” said Aursnes.

Asked about his progress with the eagle on his chest, the midfielder was clear: “It's been good; happy times, difficult times too, but I hope to continue to be happy in the future.”

A player whose qualities are appreciated by the fans, Aursnes hopes to continue repaying them on the pitch. “I really like the team, and I also really like the Benfiquistas,” he said, assessing the season so far: "We're doing well so far, but we want more, we're going to fight for victory in every game."

UNQUESTIONABLE CONSISTENCY

Consistency, regularity and versatility are just some of the qualities that Aursnes displays with an eagle on his chest, an emblem he has worn since the 2022/23 season.

He made his official debut for the Glorioso on August 27, 2022, in a 0-3 win at Boavista, on matchday 4 of the National Championship, and scored his first goal for Benfica on January 21, 2023, against Santa Clara, in a 0-3 win on matchday 17 of the Portuguese top flight.

From then on, in the 2022/23 season, Aursnes made 42 appearances (28 in the National Championship, 10 in the Champions League, 3 in the Portuguese Cup and 1 in the League Cup), in which he scored three goals and made three many assists, in just over 3190 minutes, becoming one of Benfica's figures on the road to winning the 38th National Championship.

In his second season with Benfica, in 2023/24, the Norwegian international - who retired from the national team in March 2024 to concentrate on the club - played the most games of his career in a single season, taking part in 55 matches (33 in the National Championship, 6 in the Champions League, 6 in the Europa League, 6 in the Portuguese Cup, 3 in the League Cup and 1 in the Super Cup), scoring four goals and making 10 assists, in around 4,720 minutes.

This season, in 2024/25, Aursnes has made 19 appearances (10 in La Liga, 6 in the Champions League, 2 in the Portuguese Cup and 1 in the League Cup), one goal and five assists in over 1500 minutes of use.

In total, up to the time of this renewal, Aursnes has made 116 official appearances for Benfica (71 in the National Championship, 22 in the Champions League, 6 in the Europa League, 11 in the Portuguese Cup, 5 in the League Cup and 1 in the Super Cup), eight goals and 18 assists, in around 9450 minutes.
