José Melro, a player in Benfica's B team, was voted the Best Young Player in Liga 2 in April, in a vote promoted by the Players' Union.

The 20-year-old forward was a starter in the four games played during that period, against Alverca (0-0), Marítimo (1-2), União de Leiria (1-3) and Mafra (5-0), scoring 3 goals in the 260 minutes he was on the pitch.

José Melro won 15.31% of the votes, beating off competition from Rodrigo Ramos (15%), from Tondela, and Diogo Nascimento (11.21%), from Vizela.
